the gables
Providing Residential care to young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties aged 10-18 of either gender.
The Gables is a spacious four bed-roomed home, located within a mile of Derby City centre. There is good access to public transport, shops and recreational leisure facilities.
It is well presented and decorated to a high standard and young people are encouraged to personalise their own bedrooms. Within the home, we have a games room, with a wide range of activities available. The Gables is able to accommodate young people whose behaviour may be at crisis point, requiring intervention. Both short and long term placements are available. Our dedicated staff team are experienced in the implementation of behaviour management programmes and a consistent approach applied by all, ensures that we are able to intervene successfully and moderate challenging behaviour and thus improve upon the expected outcome for the individual. We recognise the value of building relationships with young people that are based on mutual trust as well as firm boundaries. We understand and recognise that young people are individuals and hence are keen to provide a safe haven in which they grow physically, emotionally and spiritually. Freedom of expression is encouraged through a caring and supportive approach. |
Although the main focus of the work we undertake is to stabilise behaviours, ultimately we hope that our young people are able
to integrate into society with the necessary skills to enable them to manage their lives more effectively with optimum results. Wherever possible, we will try to be flexible and imaginative in our approach to group living, recognising the rights of the young people within the necessary structure of a residential environment. We are proactive in preparing young people for their future. This includes improving upon educational achievements, supporting and promoting aspirations as well as through implementation of life skill/independence programmes. Psychotherapy is available to all young people. During the assessment period, appropriate therapies are identified and provided by qualified professionals. Any areas that are being addressed will be incorporated into the individual care plan alongside the behaviour management plans. |
